That was Treasure Hunt! 3 players from the studio audience received gift boxes. Two were empty and one contained a surprise. The contestant with the surprise continued on to choose from 30 boxes, ranging from worthless items to expensive items. Or they could take a cash substitute. Ran from '73-82.

Depends on how old you are or rather how old you were when watching show. Let's Make a Deal had people dressed in costumes and they got to choose doors or boxes. For Shop till you drop, the contestants had to run around and gather gift wrapped boxes and at the end when boxes were open they had to get prizes that added up to a certain amount or they didn't win. More than likely if you're talking about the late 80's it's Shop till you drop.

The one I think of from the 80's is: Treasure Hunt, with host Geoff Edwards. I used to love that show. I wish they would show it on GSN (Game Show Network.) It was from 1981. Whoever was thinking about Shop Til You Drop, that was in 1991.
