I think many children dislike school for the same reasons: boredom, disinterest, and they don't have the ability to see how the content they learn has anything to do with real life. Most kids in primary who don't like school dislike it because they're either not part of a social group and feel excluded or because they are frustrated and don't feel competent. Others are simply bored because they already know what is being taught and feel that they could be elsewhere....others dont' see a purpose. Many in large, urban schools realize that the adults in their neighborhoods who drive Ranger Rovers, BMW's, Hummers, and Escalades never finished school and dont' have an official job. What impetus does that provide to finish school?
Lastly, I think the social aspect has a great deal to do with whether children like or dislike school. I've seen many children pass through without doing particularly well, but who come to school every day, excited to see their friends. Friends can be powerful. It's almost like knowing that you're there makes a difference, and your not being there means you'll be missing something important. We all need to feel competent and necessary. We'd like to know that someone cares if we tripped on the stairs and would help us out. Many kids never feel that way.....

kids probably dislike school because a lot of times its very boring you just sit and listen to a teacher talk so maybe if they did somethin other than sitting in a desk all day maybe something hands on(prob the reason students do like art and gym) they would enjoy school more

i think that children are just wanting more playtime and less work. they dont realze how much education can help them in the future. they just want to be a kid and nothing is wrong with that. but when they get older, reality sets in and they know how important education actually is. children also love their family and dont wanna be stuck at school without them. thats probably why they are always so eager to get out. they want to be FREE.

Well, I homeschool, and I enjoy it. I think kids don't enjoy school in general because there's too many distractions during class. The teachers (not all of them, of course) aren't as helpful as they could be. As well, some kids have learning problems, and many just haven't been disciplined enough.

Here's a good topic for you to research: Oprah recently opened a new girl's school. All students had to compete to be awarded a place in the school. These kids actually pray that they would be chosen.
"The school will teach girls to be the best human beings they can ever be," she has said.
"It will train them to become decision-makers and leaders; it will be a model school for the rest of the world."

i dont think they dislike an education, its that they ahve to work hard and they don't want to do that. they want time with their friends. they want to be in their own little homes of safety and security and happiness and not worry about the reality of working hard and facing the real world, facing responsibilities and obligations. school prepares your for your next stage in life, the real world. many don't want to face this reality, b/c it means giving up your friends. additonaly, many ppl who supposedly dislike school live for hte moment, and not the future. you could see that they blow their money and don't save, they don't plan for hte future- to an extent they may not be certain of hteir future.
