Can somebody please explain why the internet is so addictive - even something like Yahoo Answers?

While addiction to stuff like cigarette, alchohol or even coffee has a scientific basis, what makes us get hooked on to the internet? Is there a rational explanation?

I think Internet is this addictive because it can offer anything you ask for.Human Beings are social animals and the opportunity to connect with the whole world is indeed appealing.Internet acts as your personal advisor,entertainer,sounding board and what not??

Another important reason is that Internet never grows old or boring because it constantly reinvents itself.No matter how hard you try you can never explore it completely.Internet is a complete package that lures you with something new everytime you think you have had enough!

I dunno Im the same way. Especially if I have a test and should be studying for that I find myself instead answering questions like this on Yahoo answers. I have noticed that when ever I have something that I do not want to do then I resort to the internet to bide myself more time.

well if my mother answered this she would say its the devils doing because ppl do get hooked on it. some even neglect their lives and their families due to it. but thats what she would say. and who knows, maybe shes right.

Because there is always something new, and conversations or boards always have interesting topics. That's what I think, but there may be more to it than that.
