unfortunately, minimum wage is NOT keeping up w/the cost of living. each year so many prices rise but min wage does NOT or no where near enough. so ultimately, the min wage in a sense goes DOWN year after year because it wont buy as much or pay as much. tax breaks are needed for low income people. how r they to survive (i am low income btw but work 5 days a week)? cant even afford to take care of their health. i do agree that streets etc need to be maintained, police and firefighters need to make a fair wage! low income people are just getting poorer and poorer tho. what is going to be done about this problem. price caps???? im sure this is a deep subject

In general, yes they should pay taxes. You cannot base income tax on salery alone. Are these people a second earner in a family? Do they have the job only to keep busy and have other income. If they have a family and earn minimum wage, then the income tax itself will eliminate the need to pay tax. So again, in general yes.

yes they should. The people who are earning minimum wage are in a low skilled jobs. They don't need any type of education for the job and its doesn't require any skilled labor. Most of these people are teenagers living at home and if for some strange reason there is an adult over 21 and he or she is only able to acquire a job that pays minimum wage that person is a LOSER.

The minimum wage in the US is so low that no one making only the current minimum wage should have to pay income tax. Of course, there are other taxes that do apply, such as sales tax, property tax, and everyone pays that regardless of their earning capacity.

Yes. The two items have nothing to do with each other. Why should stupid people not be taxed. Who actually makes minimum wage in any case? Even fast food places pay more than the minimum in most areas.

5.15 an hour 40 hours a week is 10712. The first 8500 or so is tax free, (except for social security and medicare, and state taxes) That seems fair to me to pay taxes on the remainder.

I never thought of that before . . . makes a lot of sense. They should still file, though, and receive Earned Income Credit, as so many are severely in debt with little hope of getting out.

They aren't subject to income tax if they do their taxes because they get all their money back. They get a full refund.
