It is my husband who wants mw to hyphenate it, I just think it would be soooo long to write. I'm pretty sure I'll end up hating to have to sign anything.

I took my husband's name - it was easier for other people to pronounce. My mom hyphenated after her remarriage so she'd have the same name as we kids; it was a horrible hassle, no one ever got it right, and she couldn't fit it in any form ever made. Once we all graduated she went to her husband's name.
I get the feminist ideal behind keeping your "own" name, but since it was passed down only from the male side of your family anyway, I don't think there's much point. If it's important to you, keep your maiden name only; hyphenating looks like you can't make up your mind.

I'm for taking the husbands name myself. Think of any children you may have and consider their feelings with a long hyphenated name or if mums name is different to dads and also what name are you going to give them? Besides if you really love your husband, you shouldn't have a problem changing it.

I changed my last name to my husband's last name. That's what some women usually do, some women keep their last name, some hyphenate it or whatever. It's really up to you. Do you what you want to do. Ask your husband what he thinks? By the way, CONGRATULATIONS!!! NEWLYWEDS. It's great being married.

it depends on if you like his last name and if you like your name. some people change their names but still use their maiden names.
as for the hyphen, i think that as long as both of your names are short, it'll sound find.

It is common for a woman to take her husband's name and I also think in the way of tradition myself. I did it but its if your are comfortable with it and not to mention your husband. All decisions are no longer up to you, you are sharing your life with someone for the rest of your life.
**** Luck!
Congrats and Wish You The Best!
Hope you have a marriage as great as mine...

Don't do the hyphen thing, it's too much. If you don't like his, keep your own!
The hyphen creates situations like "meet my daughter LeeAnn Marie hotchkiss-jones."
You can never fit the name on standard forms, either.

As soon as you begin using your husband's last name as yours, that is your legal name.
When you change your last name on any legal document, SS card, driver's license, credit cards, etc., that becomes your legal name.
