Two small nails in our 1.5 year old house, are popping out of sub flooring plywood and are raising the vinyl to the point of breaking through. If I hammer it down, it will go through the vinyl for sure, but I can't just leave it either.

I'm sure that would still be covered under your home warranty since it's a newer home.. You might want to check.. I still have a copy of mine from 14 years ago. and there are some things still covered.. Good luck! Make the service people come out and fix it..

The only thing you can do is hammer them back in and do a lino repair. Hammer them in using a punch to do minimal damage. If you have access to the bottom side, as in an unfinished basement, find the spot, use some lumberlock floor adhesive and a couple screws and suck the subfloor down. The would prevent it from popping up again.

The builder i was with, this was a routine service item. They always did a lino patch as was required in the home warranty program. Hopefully you have a pattern on the lino.

House is settling. There's not really any good way of doing this. You may try placing a piece of wood over the nail first, then hammer back down, and hope not to tear to large of a hole in it, or you might try using a nail set. Try the nail punch first. Next time use deck screws, they won't pull back up.

Put a board over them and hammer on the board. It shouldn't go through then.
