Society is "persons engaged in a common profession, activity, or interest" or "totality of social relationships among humans".
The US is a nation not a society, many societal groups exist within the United States: right/left, straight/gay, black /white, christian/non christian, etc. and simultaneously the US in turn is part of a larger society of hairless apes which inhabit this planet.
The United States, as a nation, has a very difficult time playing nice with the societies inside and outside its political and geographic boundaries. Dysfunctional societal relationships candy coated by propaganda do not make a great nation.
The appropriate question is: "Is a nation great just because its citizens are told by government and media that it is great, notwithstanding what the rest of the world is saying about it?"

The U.S. has it faults, we seem to lack a certain caring that comes with the greed of a capitalistic society. We as a nation have become more about me then about us. Take 45 million without access to affordable health care for instance, and people that fight U.H.C. with a passion because it might cost them a couple of bucks in taxes. It is more expensive in the long run not to have it. But its all about my check, my money, my, my, my.

nothing makes a society great a society is a society.... to be accepted in our society is an assimilation or expermination of culture. for example, Taco bell is assimilation... extermination is getting rid of values to fit in example: mexicans useing only 1 last name in america rather than 2.

Only if you live IN the US and you have money. If you live outside of the US in a so called "third world" country (or if you are poor person living in the US), you are almost guaranteed to be subjected to the heel of America's steel toe boot.

All cultures have pros and cons. While I am fascinated at the possiblity of living in another country someday, the US is a great place.

The US is definitely the best country on Earth. After that, there is a lot of room for argument.
