I'm constantly getting emails for events, and they always mention that somebody is going to be a keynote speaker. What the hell is that? If it's the main speaker, why don't they just say it? Honest to God, this language is going down the gurgler faster than a wizz in a shower.

keynote speaker=primary speaker of the event. the person who will be doing the majority of the lecture/talking, and usually someone who is quite important in their field.

They are professionals or experts in the fields they will be speaking on. They are paid for their services.
