What is the likelihood of a military confrontation between the USA and Iran in 2007?

I'm interested in what people think given the tension in the relationship right now.

Well if Iran continues to break all the UN rules, resolutions and sanctions, someone will have to do something. Unfortunately no one has the backbone to confront the evil doers except the US and a few true allies. The rest of the world will let us all die from Iran's nuclear attacks, which will follow if we let them continue unfettered.

Tough to say because most of what is in the news is posturing and not a true indicator of what is really going on. Also, the president of Iran is not held in high regard in his own country, and the real powers that be, the religious authorities who actually control much of what happens in Iran, do not a military confrontation with the USA because we have far superior fire power and would set them back as a society and destroy their comparatively comfortable lifestyle. They are not idiots. The 2/3s of the USA that is against Bush's misadventures would not stand for it, and he knows this, or at least whoever acts as Bush's brain knows this. It would doom republican hopes to keep the white house in 2008.

I think it is unlikely because Bush is pretty much a Euroweenie. We should destroy their nuclear facilities right now. They have a right to develop nuclear weapons and we have a right to attack them if they do. They are a clear and present danger.

Tension will be amoung us for a little while, but we will not engage in war. This is what I think will happen.
