if you think about it why dont leagues just have a 100k$ salary cap per year per player, if they did this they leagues would still fnd plenty of players to play for that much and also how many of the dumb sports superstars can even find a job outside of sports for that much anyways

I agree most sports stars are grossly overpaid, but a 100,000 salary cap would be equally ridiculous. Let's look at this rationally.

1. Yes they would find players to play for that much, just not the BEST players. When I see a baseball, hockey, basketball game I want to see the BEST players, not anyone willing to play.

2. These are the best in the world at what they do, they should be paid accordingly.

3. No player is forcing anyone to pay them anything. Owners are running a buisiness and want to make money. If Barry Bonds, Alex Rodriguez, Jaromir Jagr, whoever will make them money, owners will pay to have them.

4. Players typically give up an education and a chance to pursue other careers to play. Their career may not last long or may be cut due to injury. They may need to live on what they made in a sport for the rest of their life, they want to make the most of it while they can.

Of course if you don't like any of this, you don't have to pay to see them. But for me, I'd rather pay $50 to see the best Hockey players in the world than $5 and see minor leaguers.

yea i agree, stars make too much money. but if the players arent getting the money, the owners will and players will leave their teams to whoever will pay more. and if the owners have that much money, they will pay them. but i agree, i hate the fact that these athletes get paid so much to play a game and they would be working at mcdonalds had it not been for their athleticism. i also hate how scholarships get thrown at them even though they arent smart and plenty of hardworking well deserved kids dont get them.

your probably right but they are paid to entertain us. And obviously a few years ago the Rangers thought Alex Rodrigez entertained us enough to pay him $250 mil for 10 years.

it encourages young athletes to work hard and go pro, so they make more money with more people watching them.
