As long as your baby is dressed appropriately for the weather you can leave the house whenever. I know that it can seem intimidating especially if it is very cold outside but the fresh air can't be harmful. Two of my girls are winter babies and I swore by the JJ Cole bundle me systems that go with the baby car seat. The best baby gift ever!

As long as you are comfortable I would say leave the house! It's healthy for you as well so you don't feel like you are confined to the house because of the baby.

I also just read an article about this in either the Parents or Parenting magazine (sorry I can't remember which!)

We took ours outside for walks when she was just a few days old. As far as taking one out around people, it depends upon the time of year (flu season?), the health of your baby, and how comfortable you are. We took ours out shopping at 4 weeks but the stores weren't crowded and the trips were short. If you think about it, what could really be worse than the doctor's office? It's often crowded with sick people.

Back in the day moms waited until the first shots were given....Oh goodness, I'd have cabin fever!!! It's totally up to you, but be smart about it. If you want to go out to eat, try to go early when there are fewer people there. Try to avoid close quarters with lots of people, especially during cold/flu season. At 2 weeks old I started going for short walks with my baby and running a few errands. Think about where you are going and be safe. When in doubt ask your doctor.

There are no hard and fast medical rules about how long to wait before taking a newborn out into the world, or letting outsiders near the baby. In fact, you should feel free to take your baby outside — you both would both probably enjoy a stroll outside and some fresh air!

But if you venture out into public places, like malls, movie theaters, and airplanes, be careful to avoid exposing your newborn to infections that people carry. A newborn's immune system is still developing and may not be able to fight off infections.

If you go out with your baby, it's wise to take these precautions:

Make sure your baby's vaccines are up to date.
Avoid exposing your child to people who clearly are sick with things like diarrhea or runny noses.
Ask anyone who holds or feeds your newborn to wash his or her hands.
Make sure that your infant is appropriately dressed when you go outdoors.

People use to say rude things to me all of the time. I took my son out in the winter to the grocery store, bundled up well, and people said he was too small to be out. He did,nt get sick, he was well wrapped, and I see nothing wrong with taking a baby out when they are 2 weeks old. Just don't put them near germy sufaces and make sure they are dressed and/or covered appropriately.

Well, I wouldn't make a huge amount of unnecessary trips. However, unless you have a secret underground tunnel from the hospital to your house, you already have done so! Seriously, you can leave when YOU are ready and feeling well enough to go out.

well, my daughter is 3 weeks old tomarrow, and yesterday i just took her out to the mall. I made sure that i didnt let anyone touch her though, because who knows who is sick, and who isnt sick. my mom kept telling me, "no you shouldnt take her out to the stores, because this is flu season". Well, yeah it is flu season, but babies are born with a good amunity, and they can fight off alot of germs. I mean, people have to take their baby out to go grocery shopping and stuff.

Make sure that you bring clorox wipes if you are going to take baby out though, because that way you can clean stuff before your baby touches it. For instance, when i took my baby out to the mall the other day, i had to change her, so i took her to the bathroom, and you know those one plastic changing table things? well i wiped that before i placed her on it. Then, i put one of her blankets on it. Just to protect from germs. I use the clorox wipes rather than lysol wipes, because the clorox wipes are known to protect from the flu viruses.

But yeah, it is basically your decision, dont listen to what other people tell you because you are the mother.

Congratulations on your new baby!
Hope i helped!

Most people don't take their new born out of the house until they are one month old. Of course you do have to go to doctor's appts. I have a 16 month old and that is what my mother told me.

As mom to 3, anytime you want to take the baby out, do so. Just be sure to bundle the baby up. Make sure you keep the wind out of the baby's face. Other than that, they love being outside.
