This was my dream car in high school and now that I've graduated from college and am working I thought of picking one up finally. I know someone who is willing to sell a '97 VR4 around 45k mi for about $17k. I need the car to last roughly 5 to 10 years. Is this a good deal? Will it last 5 - 10 years? And how much can I expect to pay annually on maintinence? Finally, if I don't get this particuar car are 3000GT's really worth their blue book price or should I go lower?

i own a repair shop and i buy a few cars once in a while, and really that's kind of high for that car, they don't hold there value that well, and as far as it lasting ,it probably will ,but its already ten years old,you have to think about that, and that's way too much for it,id go lower on the price, and see if i could get it much lower, its hard to figure a maintenance cost on this vehicle because even though its low miles its also ten tears old,and it going to start having problems sooner or later,so if it were me,and i really wanted that particular car,id offer a lot less, look around at what there selling for,and sort of base it on that,if you don't get this one there will be others out there to buy, this does sound like a good car and all,but that's way too much money for it,good luck,i hope this help,s.

That price sounds pretty good as these cars are hard to find in the VR4 model since they were pretty pricey new. For some reason I don't think the Fast and The Furious movies helped their resale value as much as it did for the 300ZX, Supra and Eclipse cars from the same time period. I agree with the other folks that this car probably will last awhile, but isn't something you want to use if you are commuting 30+ miles each day. Like most performance cars the maintenance costs are going to be higher and the more miles you put on it the more your costs. I have a buddy with a AWD Turbo Eclipse that he only drives a couple thousand miles a year and then for daily driving he has a dogged out Civic hatchback. The 3000GT is definitely a beautiful car that can still kick some modern car *** though.

I would say that the car you are looking at is only "worth" as much as you are willing to pay for it...Pricing on cars and trucks is one of those things that goes off of popular demand and reputation behind a vehicle as much as it's reliability. Honestly I would say that the car will not last the 5-10 years you would like to drive it and you could expect to pay quite a bit on "breakdown" maintainence if you plan on buying the car and putting it into daily driver status. If you would like to keep it as a baby and just drive it maybe 5k miles a year it might last as long as you can keep it very well maintained. Cars that are 10 yrs. old develop leaks in seals and start to have problems. By the time you kept the car 5 years there wouldn't be much car left if it was driven any amount of miles. The car you are looking at books around 18k so you would be getting a deal now and I'm sure the car will scream if driven....but with twin turbos and being 10 years old if anything broke down you would be looking at some serious dollars.

Finally I don't want to discourage you from buying your dream car. If you want one there is no amount of money that is too much to spend. You could probably get something just as fast a lot newer for around the same amount or a little more...but you may not be able to get the supercar status......which is what it's all about anyway, right?

Well considering a saw a show room '99 spider VR4 with 4k miles on it go for just $20,000 on ebay............I would say thats high, they are very hard to find and you might have to settel for paying a little more, but 17k is a little high for a 97 with 45k miles, I would look for something newer for less $ even if it has a few more miles. If you save 5 grand and get one that has 75k miles you would have 5 grand to spend on repairs down the road IF it needs it. Hope this helps!

The car is now 10 years old so past it - it will never last another 5 - 10 years, offer $10 and then its a good price

i suggest you get the 3000gt for the weekend driving and not daily driving. the car eats a lot of gas because it is a vr4 meaning it has twin turbo. which will kill your pocket. buy a more simple car like a corolla for daily driving. and save the 3000gt for your weekend drive.
