Actually, Vietnam just passed new processes that will allow you to obtain a visa upon arrival. However, I strongly advise against obtaining your visa in this manner.
The officers that you will meet to obtain a Visa on the spot will make you poop your pants with threats of deportation and imprisonment until you satisfy their immediate economic needs (pay them off). Some friends of mine went through this last year, and they will never do that again. That in mind, it is always best to obtain your visas before you travel to any country and especially to Vietnam.
It should be pretty easy and quick for you to obtain a visa for Vietnam, because there are so many Australians that visit there. Any travel agent can help you with this.
Good luck and Happy Tet!

This is an alternative way to get your visa for Vietnam. You just need to fill in our "Online Application Form", pay the service fee, get your "Visa approval letter" within 2 working days and pick up your visa at your destination airport
After we obtain the approval letter for you, we will forward you a copy by email. Copies of the same document will be forwarded on your behalf to Vietnam Immigration checkpoints at International Airports only. When you arrive in Vietnam, the Immigration officers will have those documents ready and will be able to issue your entry visa quickly.

You must have a visa before arriving in Vietnam. You should be able to get a fast visa at the VN Embassy in Australia. Not sure about the refund.

As an Australian you will get visa exempt or visa on arrival get entry to to Singapore, Malaysia and Thailand. you will could purchase a visa for Vietnam previous to vacationing there. it is frequently accomplished in Bangkok (or Australia) and takes 2 days to technique till you opt for an exhibit service and pay extra. For Cambodia and Laos you will get them on the border crossing. For an Australian coming into Laos the fee is $US30 plus $US a million extra in case you pass on a weekend or exterior of standard hours (after 5.00pm, i think of). i'm not sure on the subject of the fee for Cambodia.
