Republicans are against gay marriage not because as the Democrats say they are homophobic, but because you just can't change the definition of a word. Marriage is defined as a union between a man and a woman, and has been defined this way for milenia. I can't all of a sudden decide that I should be called a penguin because I want to be called one and change that word at my personal discretion. The gay community is being silly about this, if they would say they want equal rights and protections under the law and call their unions by another name besides marriage they would get over whelming support from Republicans and Democrats. Anyone that does not support gay marriage is labeled as homophobic even though many Republicans would say if gay couples want all of the protections and obligations that heterosexuals receive then fine, just don't devalue the institution and definition of marriage. What is funny is how the Democrats always say they support gay marriage, but when it comes down to it they won't vote for it because they know their constituents would not re-elect them. It is the same way that Democrats string along African Americans. So to answer the questions both Democrats and Republicans are opposed to gay marriage, but both want gay couples to receive the same rights...too bad the gay community keeps shooting themselves in the foot.

Well Rudy Guiliani is against gay marriage but he's for Civil Unions... A civil union is a legally recognized union similar to marriage. So gay couples would have the same rights as straights... like inheritance, and rights when it comes to medical stuff, like surgeries. So it depends who you talk to.... because Guiliani is a Republican running for the presidency in 2008.

Well there not all like minded there are some that are for it. Most are deffinitely not for gay marriage. Alot of democrats are not for gay marriage but almost all of them are for Unions. The people that are not for it are usually the weaker minded fundamentalists. Gays usually adopt children which is a good thing. Which helps that child and lowers the population by not having one themselves.

I believe the official party line is "against," although as a Republican, I'm not really sure either way, but I think I'm leaning toward "for." Despite the rhetoric from the liberals, some Republicans do think for themselves.

Well, being a republican as well,I think people shouldn't be judged for what they like.I'm for.I don't exactly enjoy the thought of it,but we really shouldn't treat people differently.Only something against the law should be punished.

That depends on which Republican you ask. Many, particularly in the religious right, are strongly opposed. Libertarians are generally in favor. Personally, I don't care.
