I can't stand her because she does that one annoying thing:
SHE BREATHES.

Personally, I admire Oprah because I feel I can relate to her -- she doesn't come across as a Hollywood-manufactured prototype -- and that's probably because she really isn't one. She's very open (or she seems that way) on her show and very humble. Her honesty and earnestness are refreshing, her willingness to endure humiliation is charming, and her generosity is overwhelming. Oprah is, as far as I can tell, a wonderful person and she has contributed a lot to our society. Following Hurricane Katrina, she donated homes and money to people who'd been hurt in the disaster, she has contributed a lot to improve the standard of living in third world countries, especially through the Angel Network. As mentioned, she recently built a school in Africa, which I think was very kind on her part, and she continues to bring attention to important issues and keep her viewers informed.

What do you mean she doesn't do anything? Do you know anything about the school that she's funding in Africa? Love her hate her there is no denying that she is incredibly influential to a huge portion of society and her intentions seem to be motivated for good. I think her magazine is pretty fantastic actually too.

That is a great question, have you noticed that the godfather of our country seems to be Montell Williams and the godmother is Oprah, and Tyra? Why did anyone buy pet rocks in the 70's? The inventor of that is a billionaire.

People can relate to her, I suppose. I don't watch the show often, but she is a black woman from a humble background, she isn't particularly attractive, but she has a voice that demands to be heard. She gives a lot of money away... to charities, her audience, etc. The topics of her show are targeted to average people. She doesn't pretend to be something she isn't. I think it's her generosity and sheer down-to-earth personality. She also isn't afraid to tackle tough issues.
