It is better for a CRT monitor to just leave it on and have it go into sleep mode. The power consumption is minuscule if it is a "Green" monitor and most sold in the last 10 years are. Turning any electronic component or device on/off causes the via solders or SMT solders to expand and contract and will eventually crack. I'm an old fart that has been working in electronics professionally from 1975 through 2000 so some of the newer technology may not have this weakness.

Well if you just sit there clicking it off and on, then YES!
But if you just turn it off when you are not using it, then NO!
But why don't you just set the power options in control panel, to turn the monitor off for you?

It became additionally custom equipped, and ended up having to scrap it and build a clean one.

Saves energy, and is OK. I do it all the time, on my 9 monitors, on GNU/Linux, ( http://pclinuxos.com ), and Macs.
