Your doctor should be telling you the answer to this.

It depends on the type of fracture. If it is very serious, then it may take a very long time, and you may have to train hard to regain the strength. However if it is minor, like a greenstick fracture, then it could take 3 months. After you take the cast off, you may have to do some exercises to get it back in shape. Don't train to hard, do it gradually. Also you leg will probably look like its in bad shape and it feels weird, but after a while it will get better. As long as it isn't a very serious fracture, you should be able to go back to playing sports.

A fracture is worst than a break. You will probably have pain and arthritis in it eventually. However to find out what to expect ask your doctor. Keeping in mind that nothing ever happens the same way for everyone and you can't anticipate what the future may hold. Take care of your leg and it will take care of you.

It depends on a lot of factors:

Age
Type of break
Where break is
Diet
Physical Health
Etc.

My son (23) broke both bones in his lower leg and shattered the talus (one of the bones in the heel). He was a motorcyclist, snowboarder, dirt biker, etc. The accident happened in early August and he was walking in a moon boot 8 weeks later. They originally told him to expect to be on crutches for 4 months.

It took 8 months of physical therapy and treatment and but he has 98% of the normal range of motion. He was back snowboarding, biking, riding, etc after about 15 months. You would never know to look at him 3 years later that he had been in an accident. The only thing you still see are the scars.
