Scarlett Letter is a book written by Nathaniel Hawthorne in the Romantic period. It's about a woman (Hester Prynne)who has a child out of wedlock and is deemed an adultress and as punishment is forced to wear an embroidered A on her dress for the rest of her life. The book is essentially a story about her alienation and eventually finding a place in society for herself. The reverend is the child's father, but she won't tell the townspeople in order to save him from disgrace. I won't ruin anymore in order to get you to read it yourself, it is really good.
