On saturday night I felt like I was getting an middle ear infection. Sunday and monday the pain got worse, Tuesday it was the worst, I couldn't talk, chew, close or open my mouth all the way. After feeling around, I felt a bump (similar to a knuckle) in front of my ear around the condyle, i've never had this bump before and it's not present on the right side of my head. The pain is less today, but it's still very painful to move my mouth. I was wondering if anyone could tell me what the problem is an if this condition has a name.

Thanks.

Thanks for the answers thus far. I forgot to mention that I do have TMJ and occaisionally my jaw will "pop" and make noises when I move it.

Could you have dislocated your temporomandibular joint?? Your history doesn't mention an injury. Could it actually be the condyle itself that you are feeling? I can't think of how the problem could be related to a possible middle ear infection. Your mastoid is located behind your ear, so it seems improbable that your condition/bump involves the mastoid process. Of course, (unless you are a medical doctor, which I seriously doubt, although you must have some knowledge of medical terminology, judging by your correct reference to "condyle"), it would make sense for you to consult a physician if your condition does not improve very shortly.

Sounds like a TMJ problem? Did you ever have a clicking sounds when opening or closing your mouth? I'm guessing its TMJ (temporomandibular joint disorder) since it usually involves pain and dysfunction around the jaw. And since the jaw connects right around the ear area, its a safe assumption. Best bet is to check with your dentist.

I would suggest a visit to the doctors may get a more informed answer than you may get here. It needs to be examined. I would be resinably certain that what you describe is a case of mastoiditis.
This can be serious if not treated quickly.. That is why I suggested medical intervention first.
