Hey man, I had a 1984 C10 as my first truck, and I went through and redid it. When I bought it, the person I bought it from already put in a 350, so I was good to go. But other than that it was completly stock. I went and found some inexpensive used rims, cleaned them up and put them on with low profile tires(yes it was 2-wheel drive). Then I went through and sanded it down, did some shaving on the body, fixed some dents, etc., and then painted it all myself. I also went through and cleaned up the engine, and changed out the carb. Then I cleaned up the interior and put in a sound system. Then, for finishing touch, I put on the clear altezza taillights(back when I was doing this, it was the new, cool thing, I don't think so anymore though). I didn't have alot of money, but I did all the work myself, and it was pretty cool. I even won 2nd place in my category at a local car show. Plus, everyone at school thought it was awesome. So, I would look on-line at some sites, like Truckin' or other truck magazines to get some ideas, and they also tell of companies that sell parts and what not to put on your truck. Summit Racing, JcWhitney, and Jegs High Performance are also good ones to check out too. As for the motor, unless its running really bad and you've got alot of money, just stick with the 305 for now. Any parts like carberator, intake, ignition, headers/exhaust you buy for the 305 will bolt up to a 350 later on. Good Luck, and have fun with it!

Anywhere...Parts for chevys are easy to come by and cheap!!!! If you are looking for body parts or acessories then JC whitney could be a good place to start...but for dress up I would look at truck'in magazine...They sell roll pans and bumper kits to make it look nicer..and rims....If it's your first car you have to have rims right? Dress it up a little and paint it, with some rims and you will have a nice truck....Sorry about the 305 though..It's always been known as a "choke motor" there are parts out there to get more out of it but the only way to get any real power out of it is to drop a 350 in and work on the 350...There are more performance parts out there for the 350 than about any other engine in existance.

JC Whitney is a real good place for your old Chevy. It's a popular body style. Treat it like a lady and she'll get you out of trouble when you need her too.
