My MacBook Pro slows down sometimes when I'm running photoshop CS3 or when I try to open the dashboard. Is it because I need more memory or is the processor the constraint (2GHz Intel CoreDuo, 1GB RAM)? I'd like to put in more memory... I'm wondering how difficult this is, if the kind of memory I buy matters (brand? quality?), how much I can put in to max it out (is it 2GB or 3GB?) and if it will void my AppleCare warranty if I do it myself. THANKS!

Hello Jeffrey,

There was a concern with older PowerPC Mac programs being slower with the new Intel-based MacBooks, but this new CS3 is made just for your computers. I'm so jealous. ;-) I've got an older TiBook. :-D

Yes, Photoshop uses a lot of RAM, so the most that you have in your MacBook Pro, the better. Get the maximum and never worry about it again. You should check the Apple web site, if there isn't anything that gives you the technical information:

It would probably be best if you had an authorized Macintosh technician install the chips for you so that you get the correct chips, get guaranteed success, and not void your warranty.

Some widgets use up a lot of memory, If you don't want any running, just click on the ⊕ symbol on the lower left of the screen and x out the widget.

Instructions on how to add/replace RAM for your MacBook Pro should be in your manual. Adding/replacing a memory yourself won't void your warranty unless you break something while adding/replacing a RAM chip(s)

Look here for the type of RAM you will need http://eshop.macsales.com/shop/memory/MacBook/DDR2/Upgrade
