I just ordered my first laptop of my life. It costs me a handsome (to me) amount of money so I want to take a really good care of it. What are the things that I should pay attention to when I'm using my laptop? Best answer for 10 points.

1. Keep an eye on how hot it gets. Many laptops unfortunately have their cooling vents on the underside, and its easy to block them while the laptop is sitting in your lap while in front of the TV.

2. If your laptop seems to run hot normally, consider a cooling station. Passive ones are cheap, since they only offer a gap between the bottom of the laptop and your desktop. Active coolers have fans that circulate air beneath the laptop.

3. Do your routine maintenance (Start > All Programs > Accessories > System Tools > Disk Cleanup and Defragment) on a regular basis.

4. Install a quality antivirus & firewall program (Norton Internet Security, McAfee, Kaspersky...) and run weekly virus scans.

5. Download and install Windows Defender, a pretty good product that will help to reduce the number of spyware/adware that make their way onto your computer.

6. Handle it with care. Even though it is a laptop, designed for portability, it still has moving parts inside that can be damaged by excessive jarring/shaking.

7. Keep the display and keyboard clean--invest in some canned air and spray the laptop to keep it clean.

8. Enjoy it--you paid a lot of $$ for it!

Keep it cool. When I refer to it I mainly mean the processor cool. The more heat on a processor the more stress it takes meaning it won't perform efficiently and will eventually brake (in a couple years usually) . Get virus protection. IF you really want to get two virus protection programs. The more the better. DON"T over charge it! People think that if you charge your battery for two or up to a week long the battery will last "really" long. NO. It actually starts to hurt the batter making you loose time on your laptop when it isn't plugged in. Charge it until it says charging complete or at 100 percent.
