Have to agree with Freestyle. South Carolina, with what they return, and the class they just signed, plus Steve Spurrier coaching puts them way ahead of both Duke and UNC. Oddly enough, South Carolina and North Carolina will square off in Chapel Hill this upcoming season. It'll be the first matchup in quite some time between the two programs. Unfortunately for NC, SC's game the prior week has just been moved up to a thursday night ESPN game against Kentucky. So Spurrier will have 2 extra days to have the Gamecocks prepared for UNC. Out of SC's top 5-7 ranked (depending on what service you look at) recruiting class that just signed, about 7 of those prospects came from NC. You got to think that Spurrier is going to want to impress in NC to keep those borders open for future recruiting classes.
Now as to the topic of this question, both UNC and Duke had comparably rough seasons last year. However, UNC managed to pull out the victory and so the nod must go to them. Also, with UNC hiring a good coach in Butch Davis, they should distance themselves from Duke in a year or two.

In a game between Duke and Carolina this year the Tar Heels won by 1 in overtime 45 to 44 in Durham so it's UNC but there's not much of a difference.

You could be talking about UNC or NC state it doesn't really matter. Next year both will be better than Duke. NC State always is a middling team with Duke at the bottom of the rankings.
UNC brought in some top talent with this recruiting class. I'm not sure of next years schedule but look for UNC to dominate Duke if they play.

carolina. well it depends on what carolina. south carolina creams them. north carolina i dont know but i would still say north carolina.
