Many things were made to be handled by the "right" (correct) side. The other side was what was "left".

historically, majorities have been right handed. and the term right as in hand came about as the majority referring to it as the right (as in correct) hand. Lefties have been in the minority for forever and in some cases religious cults had even deemed lefties unholy.
