A small black boy is the image I always have because of her Everett Anderson books. They were (and are) wonderful. And the child alone because the book that always made me cry was "Everett Anderson's Goodbye." He appears to me as a solitary figure, but the next image I have of him is wrapped in his mother's arms. So you could do a mother and child, a child alone, or a group of children, because she is such an accomplished children's author.
