I'm talking in terms of wins, Ks, ERA and WHIP. Can you rank them? I'm leaning towards Zambrano since it's his contract year and his team is supposedly much improved this season.

Here is a ranking for each category and your overall pitcher of the year. Wins will be Carpenter, Zambrano, Oswalt and Peavey. K's & ERA is Peavey, Zambrano, Carpenter and Oswalt. WHIP is Peavey, Carpenter, Oswalt and Zambrano. Therefore, I lean towards Peavey but Zambrano will have a huge year, if he can keep it mentally there.
Peavey had a strong finish after his forearm injury and strong finishes are just as important as contracts. Carpenter and Oswalt are excellent but ther potential is not that of Peavey or Zambrano. Still, Zambrano reminds me of a young John Smoltz. Once he resolves baseball in his head he'll be Cy Young but not for the Cubbies. That's for another day

All 4 should have good years. If the cubs, 'stros, and padre's offenses do good Zambrano and Oswalt should be able to win 20 each, peavy maybe 18, and Carpenter is good for up to 20. From the way things look now I'd say Carpenter or Zambrano.

Here's how I would rank them based on the stats you want. This is a tough call.

Carpenter
Oswalt
Zambrano
Peavy

All certainly solid, but here's why I'd rank them this way. Carpenter should have the most wins considering his resume and the run support he gets. He's won the most games in the past 3 years out of all of these pitchers and that should continue. He keeps a solid ERA and WHIP, should be the best of the 4 in both of those categories. 2nd in the NL in K's last year.

Oswalt and Peavy will be right behind, Oswalt for K's and wins. Peavy will lack in the win category and will hurt you in WHIP.

Zambrano is prone to injuries. He'll pay divedends in K's, but wins could become scarce and has a tendency to be wild and get hit around some.

If you had to pick one, go with Carpenter. He'll get you wins and he'll be very good, perhaps the best in all other categories.

1. Zambrano
2. Carpenter
3. peavy
4. Oswalt
Zambrano is going to have the most productive season out this four great pitcher. He would win anywhere from 14 and 18 games this seaso, he my also win the MVP too. Zambrano would have his best season in the majors this year.

Carpenter didn't have a great year last season and he is going to be under a lot of pressure this year because his team would depend a lot on him, so he must pitch perfect this season for St Louis to have a chance to make it back to the playoffs. The cubs obviously are favorite to win their division.

Peavy would pitch good this season, but is hard to tell how productive can he be this year.

Oswalt is going to be under a lot of pressure this season too, because he is the astros number one pitcher too.

Zambrano will have the best of the four because he's a workhorse and he eats innings and he mows them down. Peavy might be next, followed by Oswalt and Carpenter, who I think will have injury problems.

I think Zambrano. He was fantastic last year. And with all that new found offense in Soriano, the resigning of Ramirez, and a solid 2 hitter in DeRosa, he should have more runs to work with. Not to mention, he's a threat at the plate.
