Um... I am British. Raised in London since I was three years old therefore I know a London accent when I hear one. Sorry, but he is definitely not an Aussie!

I've also wondered that too! His accent is an East London accent. check out this link-- http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/GEICO
Its also a bit ironic that its a British accent because GEICO stands for Government Employees Insurance Company based in Omaha, Nebraska! Very American!

The Gecko in the Geico commercial is actually a Northland Green Gecko native to New Zealand (a similar "british type" accent to Australia's accent)....

It is my guess that the actor hired to do the voice over wasn't really from England, Australia, OR New Zealand (I might be wrong)... since it is very hard to imitate a "down under" accent, it comes out sounding very "Londony!"

Because everyone loves the way that British people talk, it's a fact. A British accent makes anything sound professional and honest. I'd accept anything a British person said as fact.

It is an Australian accent and it is pretty silly since Geico is Government Employees Insurance Company.

Who can resist a British accent? This is a great marketing strategy. used also in most documentaries which are narrated with British accents. It's pleasing to listen to because it sounds educated, soothing, and grammatically correct, so it doesn't make us grammar Nazis twitch.
