we have a project at school and my friend got a shiny usb flash drive and i got jealous so i'm getting one now and they are 20$ for a 1G so can you erase files?

Yes, no problem, absolutely! Let me tell you a little something about those things. They're cheap. If you can, what you wanna do is go to some fairs or computer shows or whatever because a lot of companies out there like to give those out for free. Now, they might not necessarily be 1 gig each but they'll give away ones that may be 100 megs each.
A lot of companies, what they do is give them away as premium gifts or some magazines, if you get a subscription, they'll send you one for free. You have to look for ones that do that. You don't wanna actually buy them directly from Best Buy. Think about it, now you can buy one for 20 clams or you can get a National Geographic magazine and have them send you one for free.
Pal, do a search on the internet, see how you can get one for free. Or you can steal your friends. I mean, if he doesn't know, he doesn't know, right? Ah ha ha ha ha, just kidding
Good luck with that. Those things are great, you can delete things off of them, don't worry.

Go to my computer and open the flash disk drive. Then simply highlight and delete the files as needed.

Yes you can, real easy to do so...
BUT Remember this, when you delete from USB Drive, it bypasses the recycle bin, in other words when you click delete, It's Gone for Good...

Yes you can, but remember recovering files after they are deleted is almost impossible on flash drives, so back them up.
