If he called you a "spring chicken" then he may have been saying you're only young. Being told you look like a chicken would be an insult I think. Don't go on a diet ditch the b/f for someone who appreciates you.

I DON'T think it means you need to go on a diet...most people use the term "chicken legs" for skinny legs..I am not sure what looking like a chicken would mean....I don't think I'd take it as a compliment. Best to ask him what he meant by it.

Don't go on a diet to please him or anyone else. What do you like, are you happy with how you look. If he truly loved you he would accept you as you are, period.
If he has a problem with that, he can find someone else who fits has idea women. There is verbal abuse in my opinion sure it may be his way of getting you motivated but that is not cool as far as I'm concerned. How does he know you don't have a complex about you looks or body.
If its what you want to do for you go for it. But don't do it to please him.
