ONCE AGAIN DISREGARD..I CAN'T PRINT OUT ON MY PC..&EVERYTHING'S BLOCK IN MY SCHOOL EXCEPT FOR THIS WEBSITE..AND I CAn'T EVEN USE THE YAHOO MAIL THANKS

Pre-lab Questions:
1. Production or absorption of heat or emission of life, production of sound, change of color, formation of precipitate or new product and release of gas.
2. a. Combustion- burn in the presence of oxygen to produce carbon dioxide and water (release of gas)
b. Decomposition- breaking down of a compound
c. synthesis- two elements or compounds combined together
d. single replacement- (compound and element)
e. double replacement- (compound and compound)

Reaction #1

OBSERVATION:
light and white

EVIDENCE:
it turned pink

REACTION:
decomposition

Reaction #2
OBSERVATION:
magnesium is silver, thin and malleable

EVIDENCE:
magnesium turned bright white light

REACTION:
synthesis

Reaction #3
OBSERVATION:
clear and liquid

EVIDENCE:
it evaporated and it turned into gas

REACTION:
combustion

Reaction #4
OBSERVATION:
powder and liquid

EVIDENCE:
change of color, it turned into milky and bubbly

REACTION:
double replacement

Reaction #5
OBSERVATION:
copper is metal, silver nitrate liquid and clear

EVIDENCE:
turned ash, silver and rusted

REACTION:
single replacement

Post-lab Questions:
1. It turned silver on the surface of the copper coil when it was placed in the silver nitrate.
2. The silver nitrate solution separated and the silver combined with copper and the silver nitrate turned ashy.
3. The gases produced were oxygen, carbon dioxide and hydrogen.

Analysis:
1. sodium bicarbonate= sodium + bicarbonate
Na2(HCO3)= Na + 2 (HCO3)
2. Mg+ -->
3. Butane 02--> C02 + H20
4. calcium chloride + sodium carbonate --> calcium carbonate + sodium choloride
CaCl2 + Na2(C03) --> Ca(C03) + NaCl
1 Ca 1
2 Cl 1
2 Na 1
3 O 3
CaCl2 + Na2(C03) --> Ca(C03) + 2 NaCl
1 Ca 1
2 Cl 2
2 Na 2
3 O 3

5. Copper + Silver Nitrate -->

Cu + Ag(NO3) --> Ag + Cu(NO3)2
1 Cu 1
1 Ag 1
1 (NO3) 2
2 Ag(NO3) + Cu -->Cu(NO3)2 + 2 Ag
1 Cu 1
2 Ag 2
2 (NO3) 2

LAB CONCLUSION

The purpose of this lab is to determine the different types of chemical reactions, how they work and their differences. There are five different types of chemical reactions which are the combustion, synthesis, double replacement, single replacement and decomposition. In this lab, there were many indications that a chemical reaction has occurred. The indications that it occured are evaporation, change in color, formation of new product, release of gas etc.
Decomposition occurred on the first reaction when the substance evaporated while heated, leaving the other substance by itself. Combustion occured when it evaporated and the release of gas showed that a chemical change occurred. Synthesis occured when a new substance formed. Double replacement occurred the two compounds were switched. Single replacement occurred when the silver combined with the copper leaving the nitrate solution by itself.

Wow, that sucks that your school has so much censorship. Hope your lab went well.
