Find a quiet and organized place. Turn off any distractions, except maybe classical music turned down very low. If it is Math or Science, read all the bold face type and the headings first. Do not try to absorb all the details just the general picture of what is going on. By doing this first your brain will know where it is heading and connect the dots for you without you even knowing it. You can learn any subject equally as easy as another. There are no hard subjects. Try to associate with real life examples/objects. Word association works well. The secret is not remembering what to do but more over how to do it. Every time you do or learn something new an electrical signal passes through your brain. Like a path in the grass it becomes wider each time you walk down it. The same in your brain. The more times you do something the easier it is for the electrical impulses to find their way. By using word association it creates signposts for these impulses to find their way back to place where the information was stored.
Good luck.

There are a lot of tricks to help yourself concentrate, as well as helping you remember more so you don't have to study as much. This is a very common problem, especially if you are trying to study for longer than twenty minutes at a time. Take a short break every twenty minutes. Break the material down into manageable sections so it's not as overwhelming. Set goals for yourself ("I will study x number of pages before supper") and reward yourself too ("If I finish studying this chapter by 7:00 I can go to a movie"). If you have trouble retaining what you are studying, make studying active instead of just reading your notes or text book. Use a highlighter, make notes for yourself, or draw diagrams or cartoons so you will remember things. Try summarizing each paragraph to yourself to make sure you understood the important parts. Talk about the subject and study with your friends. Make jokes or stories about the subject so it will be more entertaining. If you are musically inclined, rewrite a song so that it talks about the subject you are trying to study (it sounds cheesy, but my entire class remembered a subject in science after my best friend changed the lyrics of the song "Tomorrow" from the musical Annie, so this really does work). You can even make flash cards and review them while you are waiting for a bus or standing in line at the store. Also experiment with your environment. Some people need complete silence, while ohers prefer some soft music. Loud music is hardly ever helpful. Make sure to avoid distractions like the TV, IM conversations, and people who are not studying with you. Good Luck

The only way to concentrate is to do it purposefully. Instead of dreading studying, envision the future fruit of your labor. Turn off every distraction and set a time to study. Is better to study now than the night before a test!

What I do is listen to music and turn off things like the TV. It helps me concentrate a lot. Every half a hour take a 5 minute break and stretch to ensure bloodflow.

I have the same problem. See, the trouble is, you have alot more on your mind than studying. The trick to this is to get motivated. Tell yourself that you're gonna kick that test's butt and do it! I find that being under stress helps me. I begin to think of my rewards for doing whatever it is I dread, and I push myself. Rewarding yourself for hard work is always a great way to motivate yourself. Why do you think all the smarties gain a freshman fifteen? LMAO.

Yes, I have an answer for you. When your mind starts to wander, let it wander then write down the thought. Eventually, your brain will grasp that you are doing more writing on your thoughts then your actual work. You will be amazed rereading your thoughts.
