It depends on what you are trying to do. Fireworks is better for creating pixel-precision graphics - especially suited for web layouts and web graphics. It's also a little easier to do complex vector objects in Fireworks, and it's easier to move around multiple layers at once and rearrange them. However, Photoshop has much more sophisticated graphic manipulation tools, which makes it more suited for (surprise) photos and very specific graphics. Designing complex photo-like graphics with many details is much easier in Photoshop.

The key is to understand that the two are not direct competitors, nor are they for completely different tasks. They overlap in some areas, and in others they don't. They are both effective tools, however.

both of 'em is good overaly, but photoshop have much richer features and combination of each features so it's more complicated and become rich in features... the things that firework did'nt have...
if you are keen on using photoshop, try the new photoshop CS2 it has a great color and more flexible in works.
