Would you please stop using the term African - American?
I think the term "African American" is ridiculous! First off - I am not a racist and have many friends of different races, nationalities and cultures. It is absurd to assume that when you see a black person that he or she is in fact an "African American". The reference to "American" indicates a United States citizenship hence the word "American" instead of "Canadian" for instance. Africa is not a country - rather a continent. Therefore when someone refers to him or herself as being an "African American" I often wonder which country in Africa that person is referring to. There are 50 plus countries in Africa and I am thus inclined to ask that person referring to himself as being an "African American" exactly which country he or she is from. If that person is indeed a bona fide African American then the correct term should be not African American - but perhaps "Nigerian American", "Angolan American", "South African American", "Egyptian American" "Malawi American" or "Liberian American".... and so fourth. I have a black friend who is Canadian / Trinidadian who happens to live in the United States and she is offended when people refer to her as an "African American"; I think rightfully so! The correct term is "black" and it is neither - nor should it be offensive in any form whatsoever. FYI, Charlize Theron is from South Africa. Now if she were to immigrate to the U.S. you can rightfully call her a South African American and as everyone knows, she's a white blonde.
Anyone who thinks it's racist to call a black person "black" needs to get their heads examined. I'm not offended when I'm referred to as "white". Come on guys...... I have a German friend and a Dutch friend who are black. So.... when they visit me in the States are you going to refer to them as being "African American"?????????????????

Disclaimer: this is not intended to be offensive to anyone. Just a theory from a person who has done a lot of work in sports and also has done quite a bit with biology.
It is plain and simple genetics and heredity. Somewhere along the lines through the chain of evolution athletic black people had a better chance of surviving and breeding. This didn't happen to the same extent in white or asian people. Therefore, what you have today are superior athletes because of genetics and heredity.
To put a few rumors to rest...All black people do not have an extra muscle in their legs...do some...yes, but so do some white people (just not as many - once again genetics)...FYI this muscle is always located in the lower calf when I've seen it - might help with jumping or quickness, but it is a pretty small muscle. Are there black athletes that work harder than their white teammates - yes. Are there white athletes that work harder than their black teammates - yes.

Jimmy the Greek was fired from CBS a long time ago for stating the truth. Most blacks are in the United States because their ancestors were slaves. The biggest strongest male slaves were bred like livestock with the biggest strongest female slaves. Over generations of evolution, this made blacks in America superior athletes to whites. This also led to a low body fat percentage which is the reason African Americans are for the most part not strong swimmers. The main point is that it's from genetic evolution, the secondary point is that it's from the "mating" that was forced by slave owners.

I think Jimmy "the Greek" was fired for discussing this
"On January 16, 1988, he was fired by the CBS network (where he was a contributor to the NFL Today program since 1976) after commenting to a reporter that African Americans were naturally superior athletes because they had been bred to produce stronger offspring during slavery"

WHY blacks are good in track & field, basketball, and football at the highest levels because we work dam hard to get there i do.. NOW i am tied for the fastest sprinter in MTHS (owner of 2 records 200m and 55m) and life is good because i work harder then all the white ppl in my dam school. Black kids were taught from birth to be the best athlete they can be soo that they can be the best this is why black are the dominate track & field, basketball, and football at the highest levels

In my opinion, the reason is that they tend to have higher muscle-to-fat ratio. In a sport where "explosiveness" gives you an edge, athletes who are leaner, therefore lighter but have powerful muscles, would dominate.
If other non-African Americans had the same physique, they would do just as well.

I think it's in the genetics. African-Americans or even the native Africans, for that matter, have lean and flexible muscle fibers that give them natural speed and all-around athletic ability.
