I agree with jehut. The movie is rarely as good as the book. One major disappointment for me was The DaVinci Code. I thought the book was way better than the movie.

No. I grew up watching the Disney movie "Mary Poppins". In the eighth grade I decided to read the book because I liked the movie so much. Big mistake. The book is almost the complete opposite of the movie!!! Everything is different! That is one of the rare occassions I've seen where the movie is better than the book. Most of the times the book is a thousand times better.

That's exactly right! My brother and I actually had a conversation about this earlier... there are very few instances where the movie is as good as the book. Movies leave out too many of the details that make the book good.

You should always read the book.
Case in point: Simon Burch (the movie) was not much like the book that supposedly inspired it: A Prayer for Owen Meany.

I think that sometimes you can. But you shouldn't judge The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe by its movie. :) And Ella Enchanted the book was SO much better than the movie that they can scarcely bear the same name!

You speak of Eragon. The director of the movie didn't think that many people actually followed the books so he made it the way he did.

How right you are. The book is usually much better, more depth and detail. Better development of characters and plot.
