EASY -- IT'S HOCKEY.

EVEN FAT GUYS CAN 'PLAY' FOOTBALL

No sport is tougher than hockey.

Football - if they played all of the games on ice - then MAYBE it would be as tough.

The guys can skate 30mph, shoot the puck over 100mph, they're allowed to knock each other around - AND - they put wooden boards around it, with glass so they and the puck stay in.

Here's the best indicator: for a hockey guy to lose a tooth is a badge of courage. They routinely get stitched up and return to the game. NFL, NBA & MLB guys NEVER come back from lost teeth or stitches.

There's no way out! It's THE toughest game on the planet, bar none.

Boxing isn't a sport - it is pure violence. Golf is not a sport - unless you can tackle the guy while he's hitting the ball. Soccer is kickball with nets at each end.

Seriously, that's just my opinion.

Hands down it has to be hockey. In a three-hour football game there can't possibly be more than 10 minutes of actual action. In hockey the action is almost continuous, and despite the constant shift changes, it's obviously more physically intense. At any position, your situation is constantly shifting from offense to defense and back, so it is mentally tougher also. In football, players at some positions can have an entire career without ever even touching the football.

Hockey is harder for the simple reason it involves learning a skill that not everyone can do. Skating. Eeryone has the ability to run, maybe not fasat but they can do it. It's not easy and therefore just learning how to skate is the most important thing with hockey. And here is the sad part about it, even if you can skate its not guaranteed that you will be good at hockey. The hits are faster and more frequent. Played both and not taking anything away from football but the only reason its harder is its played on ice!!

Hockey. Hockey. Hockey.

It got all the other sports rolled into it. Hitting/Checking like football. bare-knuckled fights/wrestles like UFC and wrestling. Also the average hockey player is now 6'1 210. imagine 210 lbs of bone & muscle flying at you at 30MPH and you try to absorb that hit. And that's considered a light hit. After you get crushed into the boards by that guy, you are expected to sprint up to 200 feet in about 4 secs while getting hit along the way. The really hard hits are where you and the other guy are going 30MPH towards each other and then smash head-on.

The above scenarios can apply to any player, any time, any game. And there are 82 regular season games + up to 28 playoff games, all within 7 months. Do the math- that's 100 games in about 215 days. Not to mention the pre-season games and roster tryouts where the big-bully-fighter-goon guy has something to prove. players play and see live action up to 30 minutes per game.

In addition to all that, a player must be able to score goals, assist on others, defend, check opposing players, and stick to the system the coach instills.

The goalie gets it even worse, up to 5 opposing 210lb-ers crashing the net all the time, then being hit by a solid rubber puck up to 100MPH anywhere on your body up to 50 times a game.

And you know what makes it really tough? The hockey rink is enclosed. A cowardly guy has nowhere to run & get away.

Can anybody think of a sport to top that?

I played both for several years and both are very tough. Hockey requires more of a balance of skill and toughness than football and both can be pretty brutal at times. Football is slightly easier because generally speaking there is a 6 to 10 second burst of aggression where in hockey that burst requires you to give 100% for around 45 seconds and if you are unlucky and cant get a line change it may require a minute to 1 1/2 minutes. Ice hurts worse than grass (although the couple of times we played on turf wasnt fun) but that is somewhat negated by having a half dozen guys on the football feild trying their best to inflict as much pain as possible during (and after) the tackle. Both are tough sports and require both toughness and talent...a slight edge in toughness to the hockey players....trying to skate while someone is whacking you with a stick or drilling you along the boards really sucks (until you get a chance to give it back!). If you arent tough then neither sport is for you, if you can handle pain and enjoy delivering some yourself both are pretty awesome!

is hockey hard? " I don't know, you tell me. We need to have the strength and power of a football player, the stamina of a marathon runner, and the concentraion of a brain surgeon. But we need to put all this together while moving at high speeds on a cold and slippery surface while 5 other guys use clubs to try and kill us, oh yeah did I mention that this whole time we're standing on blades 1/8 of an inch thick? Is ice hockey hard? I don't know, you tell me. Next question."

Even though I do not like the man, he has a point. Hockey is harder.

Hockey is harder but Football is tougher

Apples and oranges.

Both sports involve physical contact, but delivered in different ways to different parts of the body - to different effect.

Mental adjustments and toughness are different as well, there are different time pressures in each sport, different focus on set plays, reactive plays etc.

Also depends on the individual athlete and position they play. A typical placekicker is still a football player, but not normally built to handle the stresses and impacts that a running back would. Some hockey speedsters, even at the top level, can't take a hit very well and so depend on their agility and speed to avoid contact.

hockey is harder because it takes much more skill. you have to be a really good skater, be able to shoot well, and be strong so you can check people.
in football, its mostly just strength aka knocking people over. its easier because each person has a specialized position, like the kicker only kicks a ball a few times a game, so they can just practice that. in hockey, you have to practice all of the skills.
plus in football, there isnt much action, like the acutal time. most of the game is spent standing around waiting to start the play
HOCKEY IS THE BEST SPORT!!!!

Hockey.

Compare a hard hit in both sports. Hockey players are going faster, the surface they hit is harder, and the equipment is less protective.

All players are expected to play both offense and defense - except of course goaltenders.

A championship team plays over a hundred games in the NHL compared to maybe twenty in the NFL.

What is called unnecessary roughness in football is commonplace in hockey.
