The answers so far are pretty stupid. Don't do just a ton of sit-ups, this is really crap advice from people that don't know squat about how to get a six pack.

Everyone has abs, and ab muscle. The primary reason why you can't see them is because of the layer of fat covering them, fat in that region is called adipose tissue, and is the worst kind of fat in your body). You will need to lose this fat before you will see any definition. Now, even if your body type "appears" to be skinny or "average", this will not cut it. It differs for everyone but generally men will need to get their body fat % below about 8-10% to start seeing anything, then lower for better definition.

You'll need to be very strict about diet- eat clean, lots of protein, no carbs after 7pm, no food after 9pm, and a whole lot of other types you'll need to research yourself. If you have the motivation that you'll find good info. Check out bodybuilding.com or get some quality books that are NOT fad diets. Do HIIT cardio to maximize fat lose. Google HIIT for this, or "Guerilla Cardio".

The secondary factor is size of abs. Some people have very weak abs and building the muscle mass for them will make your abs pop out. But, this won't matter worth anything if you still have that fat covering them- in fact, if you only work your abs and don't do cardio or lose weight, then your stomach will appear fatter.

Those are some tips but you need to research everything yourself thats the first step to willpower and motivation.

Good luck mate.

I want to add, that when you start getting into excersising, I can not stress enough, NOT to only do 1000s of crunches or situps. First of all, this is ineffective, and secondly if only target one region of your core. You'll want a total core workout and again for this get a decent book. The abs diet books have a good amount of exercises for abs.

I think it depends on the person lol... There probably isn't one correct way to answer this. As much as I can't deny that the six-pack is appealing, if you don't have a great personality that goes with it the appeal is most likely temporary. Flat stomach or beer belly is probably the same. Although women will say that a man with a killer body is good looking (which is true), we will end up choosing the man that has the heart, the great personality, the brain, the honesty, etc... before considering the man with the six-pack.... if you have all those qualities and a six-pack well power to you lol... But ya, I guess my answer summed up would be that every woman has their own preference and that in the end the relationship that will last won't be based on a six-pack or anything of the kind... Hope this helps

this is what i do: lay on the ground, put your hands under your butt, raise your legs up about six inches off the ground for 60 seconds. raise your legs all the way up to the vertical position and back down about 10 times. after the 10th, bring your legs down to the six inch height again. hold at six inches for 60 seconds and repeat.
