Yes you can. Go to www.crucial.com and look part way down on the right. Click the button "Scan My System". Let Crucial install its system scanner, and it will show you exactly what type you have and how much more you can add, among other things. Crucial is the website for Micron memory, one of the best manufacturers in my opinion. You can also purchase the correct memory from this site as well, or write down the specs and purchase elsewhere.

Maybe. The best way to find out is contact either your motherboard manufacturer or the manufacturer of your computer. Many older computers are limited to a maximum of 512MB of RAM and will not accept anything larger than a 256MB stick of RAM.

If you have an HP computer you can go to www.hp.com and put in the model number. Click on the tab for specifications and it will tell you exactly what the maximum is and what type of RAM it accepts. Other manufacturers like Gateway may have the same information on their websites as well.

this depends on the type of computer motherboard. most systems with 2 slots only allow pairs of the same memory amount. (such as two 256Mb's or two 512Mb's) you can try mixing and if it doesn't work, then you know what to do.
if this is newer system, then you will need pairs of 2.
