if (theoretically) the government banned alcohol and made legal cannabis do you think we would see a reduction in violent crime?

The death rate would go down. Alcohol contributes to hundreds of thousands of deaths annually, there is no statistical data to show weed, as a sole agent, has caused ANY deaths

No, we would probably actually see an INCREASE in violent crime, because people who can now drink 'legally' would be forced to 'break the law' to get their alcohol. But 'alcohol' and 'cannabis' are like 'apples and oranges' and can't really be compared in the way you described. And you did say 'violent crime' ... but 'growing and selling cannabis' is not a 'violent crime' and most people who buy it don't commit any crime to get the money to buy it ... so why don't you 're-ask' your question without the word 'violent' ... but if you do, I think you'll probably see that the same answer I gave you is the 'correct answer' ... because while cannabis can 'mellow people out,' the 'lack of alcohol' can make other people very violent ...

Where I am, 80% of all crimes are alcohol related. You don't see that with cannabis. Both remain substances that cause brain damage when used to excess.

Definately alcohol fuels anger, id rather smoke a fattie and chill, then get all wound up on alcohol.I have native indian in my blood and i cant drink whisky, i stick with beer keeps me from getting into bar brawls.

The problem with both is that many people do not use moderation and then some dumb @sses, get behind the wheel of a motor vehicle and then that is where all hell breaks loose. Get drunk or stoned, but keep your @sses at home,,,,

No way. If its banned people are going to want it more and it's not going to stop them from getting it. It hasn't stopped people from using drugs, having sex with prostitutes, or anything else that's illegal/banned.
