In the 1937 a montreal canadian player died from a check. Thats why the old montreal forum used was supposadly haunted with teams opposing teams seeing to many canadians on the ice a few times got confussed go to this site and see about the forums ghosts Howie Morenz was the player who died. Often times other teams coaches reported seeing 6 canadians on the ice one with his number and would send an extra guy out to check him only to discover that there was no one there most famous occurance of this was in 1979 playoffs versus the bruins.
Go to http://www.nhl.com/hockeyu/history/teams/montreal.html for more ghost occurances at the old forum

The worst injury would probably have to be the injury Bill Masterton suffered on January 13, 1968, in a game between the Minnesota North Stars and the Oakland Seals.

Masterton was checked by two players at the same time and fell backwards, hitting his head on the ice. This was before players wore helmets. The impact damaged his brain and caused severe bleeding.

Masterton died two days later from the injury. He is the only NHL player to die from an injury in a game

Well, the worst I've ever seen was Malarchuk, as some have said. After having his throat sliced by a blade and leaving a pool of blood on the ice he skated off under his own power. He said in a later interview that he knew his mother was watching and he wanted to make sure she didn't have to watch him die. Luckily, the team trainer was a medic in Vietnam and was able to prevent him from bleeding to death before the doctors could save him.

He was back in practice four days later and continued to ride rodeo on the side. So, no, that doesn't trump death.

Warning: the link is to a fairly graphic image.

Well we all know that HockeyGirl is wrong in saying that because that's biased and really stupid. But I would say the Todd Bertuzzi cheap shot on Steven Moore of the Colorado Avalanche. Steve, the brother of the Pens' Dominic, would've been a good player if it wasn't for that stupid hit. Another bad one was Marty McSorley's slash to the back of Donald Brashear's head. That caused Brashear to be out for a little bit of time.

ok there became a faceoff on the main appropriate area in my deffensive zone, and that i became taking a face off. i became think to attempt and hit it forward previous there D as quickly because it became dropped and while it became I hit it out of the air and it sailed around the finished ice and and hit the spectacular of the top wall which became huge. i've got not rather had a bad harm yet between the boys on my group became going for a %. interior the corner and he have been given hit from at the back of and crashed into the boards. It did no longer seem too undesirable yet while he have been given up his arm became bent in 3 distinctive instructions it became exceptionally strange.

Aside from death, it has to be the guy who got his throat cut when his team mate was checked into him and spewed blood a few feet while he was skating. It was a lot more spectacular than the average skating over the goalie's neck. They guy was skating with blood shooting right out of him. I'm thinking about a junior A game in Dartmouth NS during the eighties. He lived.

If you've ever viewed Clint Malarchuk's slashing of his jugular vein by the other players skate, you will see how terrible of an injury this was. He practically choked on his own blood while spurting blood all over the ice turning it red. Check out youtube and see the video if you dare.

Well if you talk about worst injuries, Brian Berard's was pretty bad, he ended up losing sight in his one eye, I think it was from a stick.

I don't remember who it was but a long time ago, someone got his neck slit by a skate.

Edit - 2 posts above me, that was who it was.

i would say before the goalies started wearing the guards in front of their throats ,back in 1989 sabres and the blues were playing they were rushing the net when a skate blade caught the goalie in the throat( clint malarchuk)needles to say he cut his throat but he managed to survive and still played for 9 more years.
