What age were you during the depression? What was your childhood like because of the D ? When was your family able to live a normal life again? What kinds of things did children have to do during the Depression that would surprise children today? Were you living in a city or a rural area and did it make any difference in how well you were able to survive? What do you think of the actions the government took to get the country out of The Depression? Did you know anyone who worked for the Conservation Corps which the gov't set up to employ people and also benefit the country ? Do you recall any people who were worse off than your family and could describe what that was like such as many men becoming hobos and riding the trains? Did you ever eat at a soup kitchen where people lined up for food or were you always able to eat at home? As a child, did you ever have any money of your own to spend as you wanted? Describe what a typical day was like for you as a child. Were schools also very limited because of The Depression?

That's weird, we're doing the same thing in my English class about significant events in a person's life and/or history. Hmm, try these
1. Were these the hardest times of your life? If so how?
2. How did you have to improvise?
3. What was running through your mind when these hard times passed?
4. Did you ever feel like giving up on life?
5. Did you blame anyone for the Great Depression?
6. Did the alleged mafia leaders help out in your community?
Sorry that's all I could think of for now. But also, wasn't the the Great Depression during the 1930's and started in 1929 when the stock market crashed? I'm not sure.

How old were you during the depression? Did it seem like just a part of life, or were you old enough to notice the economic and social upheaval? What kind of things did you do to save money? Some people sold their hair. These days, we're constantly being told that we're on the brink of some disaster or another. When the depression hit, did you think it was the end of the world, or did you just accept it and get on with it? Some people say that the war was necessary to get the economy out of depression. Do you think there could have been a less violent way to do it?

the depression didn't really start until 1930 and was at it's worse during the mid-1930s.
Anyways -
Ask her what people had to do to survive, and if they had to move around a lot just to find work. Maybe ask her what a few of the worst things she can remember about the depression was, and it might trigger more questions from you . Ask her if she remembers hearing President Roosevelt on the radio doing "fireside chats" with the American people.

I think if you ask her what was life like in 1920 she will probably fill in the blanks for you. Ask how life has changed for her. What was a typical day for her. How did they support themselves, what did they do for entertainment. What was an average workers pay.
