Spud = potato. It's a gun which you load by sticking it in to a potato and firing the potato pellets. Both fun and dangerous.

A spud gun refers to one of two things, the classic childs toy which is used to fire small pieces of potato using a small volume of low air pressure, or a larger pipe based cannon which uses higher air pressure or combustion of a gaseous fuel to launch larger chunks of potato for recreation. The spud gun is not limited to launching only potatoes, other projectiles can and have been sucessfully lauched.

Take some plumbing pipe. Drill a hole in the bottom end. Install a BBQ starter or any kind of push activated sparker. Spray lots and lots of hair spray in one end, push a potato in the other. Spark and shoot.
