ome baby ferrets do this. My first would cry every time I put her in the cage for the night. The best thing to do is to ingore it. Eventually she/he will see that throwing the tantrum (sp?) isnt working and will stop.

Just like all baby mammals, ferret pups need a lot of attention (in the wild, from playmates or their mom) to socialize properly. Be sure to play with it outside of a cage as much as possible. However, they do also need to be trained to be alone.

Start with several hours of alone time in its cage, then gradually build up to overnight. A good tip is to leave a stopwatch under his blanket when its time for bed- it simulates a mother ferret's heartbeat. good luck!

PS: If your ferret cries or whines continuously, it may be ill or in pain. Take it to a vet.

That does not sound normal to me. Would you please find a ferret knowledgeable vet and have it checked out? It may be sick and hurting. I have had ferrets of any age group in the past 4 yrs and never seen one cry like that for no reason other than having to be in a cage. Caging a ferret is fine as long as it gets enough time outside the cage and enough interaction with you.

Take it out of the cage and play with it. Just like any other child it is craving some attention. give a toy to play with if you need to put it in the cage. this should not be done for long periods of time. How would you like to be locked up in a cage? In a new inverionment without its mother.

Ferrets are social creatures. Either hold it more or get an older ferret for it to be with. Sometimes young ferrets cry when taken from their mothers suddenly.

I put a plastic grocery bag in my ferits cage,,..she was so intertained by the crinkly sounds, and bein able to crawl 'into' it like a burrow she wore it plum out... paper wasnt as 'fun' for her...she didnt like potato chip bags much eather... but my friends ferit liked them all equilly it seems.
When she was young i put a wind up clock in a towel and Pinned it closed...she slept next to the towel, rather than in her nest..the tic-tok was soothing to her...
what a fun animal...
the only other animal that is as gregarious is the raven...
