If you knew the answer to your question, you'd never want to eat again unless you had a farm and raised your own food.
With the chemicals used to preserve food today,it could be more than a couple of days to several weeks and lets not forget about freezing the meat-that will add time before the meat has to be tossed out.
As for things like lettuce, tomatoes and such-it should be removed from the buffet table when it starts looking bad or drying out.
Some places don't change them out regularly and have actually left lettuce out that was turning brown.
Most fast food places slice their tomatoes just before they open and refrigerate help them to keep them fresh during the day.
Lettuce may be bagged and not opened until needed.

At KFC every product has what they call "hold times" during off peak hours (after lunch before dinner) food tends to sit around longer. Sometimes the hold times are looked at seriously sometimes they are ignored just depends on who is working. If you want the "freshest" fast food it's best to go during peak times. I would avoid late nights if freshness is a concern. Fast food open intill 2am or in some cases all night rarely cook after the dinner rush. So your getting older product late at night. But, your drunk at that time anyway who cares?! :)

wendys right on the package says fresh as you order it and it isn't.i love their fries and love them fresh cooked and hot,but most of the time they are room temp and soggy.the food should be fresh each day and not from the previous day kept under lamps.

The "old"should not be worried. The correct temperature would be your main concern.
