If the scratch is indented from the pen, you can put a damp cloth over the scratch and touch the wet cloth with a hot iron briefly. The steam should raise the dented area.

To clarify, you tried to get a ball point pen to write.....so now you have indent marks in the wood. On new wood that has a thin coat of lacquer on it with stain underneath. While the water on it is an idea, that works when there is no finishing on it.
If it is unfinished wood you might have a chance that way....put a soaked cloth on it for awhile and then you need an iron(like what is used for ironing your shirt) and set that on top of the marks and the setting on low. The heat will cause the wood to swell even more and be drawn upward. After that it is what it is. The color pencils are not what you need, there is some colored spackle in a tube near the pencils, that you can use to fill in the indents and then the whole surface need a recoat of varnish. This is assuming that the finish is wood like. If it is painted, you don't need the wood colored spackle, white will do, and you must sand it smooth after it dries and repaint.

there really isn't enough info to supply a good answer. is the scratch thru the finish? is it logitudal or latitudal to the direction of the floor? how old is the finish and is it stained? let's assume you are a lucky sort and the scratch is on the finish and only involves one or two boards. LIGHTLY sand only those boads until the scratch and the boards are cloudy. do not sand to bare wood. remove all the dust with a vacume or cloth dampened with paint thinner or water depending on finish type. next tape the floor surrounding the area on the joints of the wood and apply two coats of the proper polyurethane. ie gloss, semi, flat oil or water based. let dry and remove tape. it's pretty much the same process for a scratch thru the finish but much more work as you have to sand to the bare wood and apply more finish. if this is the case and if the floor is stained, consider getting an estimate from a local floor refinisher. with the proper tools and experience it really isn't a difficult fix and shouldn't cost a lot of money. i don't think you will be happy with the results of a stain pencil. they aren't made for that application. good luck!

If it actually scratced it, you can get furniture polishes that restain light scratches. If it dented the wood and left an impression, it is pretty hard to fix(I'm a professional painter). the problem is that any fillers you use can be pretty easy to match if you take your time, but they will be dull and getting the clear-coat right is the challenge. There are furniture repair places that work with new furniture stores using laquer sticks to repair damage and such. They melt this stuff in and then give the damaged area(say the whole top of your dresser) a quick re-coat. The wet clothe to swell the wood thing sounds like it could work although I haven't tried it. Go with that one first

I don't think you can undo a scratch in wood, but what you can do is go to the hardware department at Walmart and look for a wood pen. It's kind of like a wood-friendly "magic marker" and it can fill in the wood color. Just look for the right color to match your dresser. I've used it to fill in scratches my cat left on a table. It may not be perfect like you would hope, but it may make it a lot less noticeable. Good luck, and I hope it works for you.

Go to the hardware store and by wood putty and a stain pen. Fill in the scratch with the putty and allow to dry, then use the stain pen to match the color. If the scratch is thin and shallow you may be able to just use the stain pen.

There are wax pencils. You just buy the shade closest to the stain & color it in so that the wax fills the scratch, then you buff the rest of it off. It's not a permanent fix, but it's easy enough & cheap enough to do every couple months. Not to mention that if you do something more permanent, like cover it with stain, if you don't match the color *exactly*, you're screwed. If you get the wrong color wax pencil, just pick it back out of the scratch & buy another shade.

try this,i did and it worked for me.take alittle mayonaiseand put it on the scratch and cover it with plastic wrap and let it set for 20 min. or so.after that time use a plastic scrubber from the kitchen and rub with the grain of the wood. then rub with a soft cloth to remove excess ,then apply lemon oil furniture polish. the scratch must be a light one and not deep. good luck

hard wood-deep scratch, use mini sander starting with low grade(60)sandpapper.when 30%visible use 120.almost invisible, hand sand w/220 use sweeping motion to blend sanded&non-sanded areas.area may need to be filled with wood putty &/or stained.putty will need lite sanding after dried(12to24hrs@amount used).
soft wood-hand sand w/120then220,finish w/280.refer to directions above for details.
always start slow to test degree of paper.small grade adjustments and a more gradual change(4-5-or more paper changes possible)
