12 wonderfully engineered cyclinders positioned in an adequate place for optimal handling, excellent weight distribution, italian leather interior, tastefully designed chassis and suspension make a ferrari one of the world's best but as far as THE best.... I really don't know and I suppose it really depends on what your intentions are with the vehicle.

The only thing Ferraris are "best" at is arousing passion.
As a car, they are very expensive to buy, expensive to run, expensive to maintain, impractical, noisy and downright uncomfortable. Did I mention the expense?
But to look at, they are WOW! The 456GT is on my lottery win wish list.
They arouse so much passion amongst people who love cars.
Most Ferrari owners will admit that they are not the best car technically. Porsche has a must stronger claim on that title. But an owner of both a Ferrari and a Porsche would take the Ferrari out for a spin on a sunny summers evening more often than take their Porsche out.
On the other hand, if they were travelling a long distance and needed reliablility and comfort on the way then they would take the Porsche.
So yes - Ferrari are the "best" at arousing passion, but at the cost of making a practical car.

"The best ferrari is the one that flys past you as you amble along in your little banger and then gets pulled for speeding as you go past ya feel a whole lotta love for tht ferrari"
What really happens is, they fly past you in your litte banger, then 5 miles down the road, you see them on the side of the road with their hood open, just watching the steam coming from the engine shaking their heads.
amen 'we are borg'. They have without a doubt the poorest reliability of damn near every supercar made.
I recently read a story about an owner who bought a new 2004 456gt, and in the 2 years hes owned it, the operating costs were $10.26 per mile. he said that the amount he spent on repairs would have been able him to purchase a new one.
ferraris are exactly what the other poster said, they are a status symbol, purchased by those who dont understand cars.
To me, anyone who buys something other then a ferrari as a status symbol, understands how performance cars work. When you see a mosler 900 driving down the road, you know that person has the money and knows what hes driving. I could guarantee you, 90% of ferrari owners (non 'f' series owners) couldnt even tell you what a mosler is.

They are great, if you wanna pay way too much for a car. The cost of ferrari's are well over priced not to mention the upkeep. I'd rather have a viper for the cost and how easy it is to get parts for them. You break a ferrari your up an expensive creek without a mastercard.

Ferrari is actually the least reliable of the supercar range, they make them look pretty and go quickly but it'll fall apart if used daily, Porche make the best supercars in terms of reliability and looks are just a matter of opinion, if I had my choice I'd have the Bugatti Veyron, made by Volkswagen it'll do 264mph everyday for life.

It isn't. A Toyota is. The body will rust and fall off your car and your Toyota transmission and engine will still be running long after your mechanic has given up tinkering with the Ferrari. And your funds to retain him are dwindling.

They aren't by any objective measure. As status symbols they're among the best because of their racing pedigree, low-volume, and being hand-built.
But they require frequent, expensive service. They're notoriously easy to get yourself killed in...I guess that's part of the allure, though.

I can't say it's the best car but it is one of the best due to being hand built.
