The have an ok relationship now that the traditional filipino culture and spanish culture have merged. The Spanish colonized them for almost 400 years until the US defeated the Spanish in the Spanish-American war. The US had a stronghold on the Philippines until they finally became independent in 1944. If I'm not mistaken, it was a 4th of July as well. I think Filipinos probably hate the Japanese more than they hate the Spanish.......

Spain and the Philippines have a good relation as countries,Spanish royals sometimes visiting the Philippines and Philippine leaders extending symphaties to Spain during tragedies (like the Madrid bombings).Although Spanish rule lasted 333 years (1565-1898), Spain contributed to Philippine History like the Christianization of Filipinos.

Japan by the way is the Philippines' second largest economic partner.
