The Yankees keep choking because the players don't listen to Torre and a course their starting rotation has not been good period since they lost to the Florida Marlins. But Torre is the main reason they keep choking, this man i think doesn't really care about winning anymore, but he does enjoy getting big paychecks every month. The Yankees would continue choking until they fired Joe and they also need younger pitchers in their rotation.
I find it hard to understand why they didn't signed Zito, but instead they renewed the contract o Mussina who is almost at the end of his career.

Lack of chemistry, lack of situational hitting, too many stars and not enough "grinders" (like Tino, Brosius, O'Neill, Girardi, and even Knoblauch), but mainly not enough PITCHING!! The Yankees didn't always score a lot of runs when they won their four World Series', but their pitching just shut teams down. The starters always stepped up and their bullpen was second to none. It's mainly a lack of quality pitching.

I also have to add this. Red Sox fans have absolutely no longer have any right to say the Yankees buy their players. Who did the Yankees "buy" this offseason?? They didn't make any big splashes, NONE. Boston went out and BOUGHT a Japanese pitcher, spending almost $52 MILLION just for the rights to him, and another $51 MILLION to sign him. That's $103 MILLION for a guy who hasn't pitched in the major leagues before. OUCH!!! I bet Lucchino is kicking himself knowing he could have bid much less and still won the bidding. The Yankees are getting younger and cheaper. A lot of contracts run out over the next two years, and players like Hughes, Clippard, Sanchez, and Tabata will join Cano, Wang, and Cabrera in the majors. Cashman is going back to doing business the right way.

Because in a short series anything can happen. You can be the best team in your league as witnessed by the Mets last year against the Cardinals. Clearly the Mets were the better team but the Cards got hot at the right moment. That's what happened to the Yankees.

Its hard to say they keep choking in the play offs when they have the most WS Championships. They may have had some back luck the past few years but they still own the most pennants. The biggest problem they have is their owner. If he'd let the coaching staff run things and stay in his box, they'd be much better off. He's always been an as s and a distraction for the team.

They're not choking so much as just running into good pitching. They rely too much on mashers now. In the old days when they used to win in the playoffs, with Bernie, Tino and O'neil, they could manufacture runs. Lately they've relied on guys like Giambi, ARod and Sheffield to hit 3 run homeruns, which is hard to do against good pitching.

They also lost some big-game pitchers like Pettitte, Cone and Clemens. Gettting Pettitte back helps, but he's much older now. They need a couple of their other starters to come through in big games.

Didn't have a strong pitching staff. I think replacing Johnson with Pettitte helps because Pettitte can acually pitch in the Division Series which for some reason Johnson has had a terrible time with throughout his career. I think they are one starter shy of making a solid push for the World Series. Hopefully Hughes or Clemens can fill that void, preferrably the up and coming Hughes. But thats just me.

When you have the highest payroll every year, and you don't win for the 7th straight year - that is called CHOKING. When the Royals, and their payroll of 30 million does not win, it is lack of talent. The Yankees CHOKE every year now because they have yet to figure out that big money on the wrong players, added with a lack of chemistry is not the recipe for winning.

There's no such thing as choking in the playoffs....people are way too spoiled. Getting to the playoffs is a great accomplishment, those short series are a crapshoot anyone can get hot and win a short series.

They keep choking because of A-Rod the worst clutch hitter in baseball. Personally id rather have Mark Bellhorn at the plate to decide the game rather then A-Rod. Also it comes down to pitching in the post-season something the Yankees havn't had since their last championships.

Well I wouldn't call it choking but they definitly haven't had as much success as usual. maybe they were due after making the playoffs for 11 straight years and winning it all four times in the stretch of time. Yes they did do something they got Andy pettite who has four rings when he was previously with the Yankees.
