I found a site that says that "assassin bugs can be found in Europe, Africa, North America, Central America, South America, and other parts of the world." What other parts of the world? Australia and Asia?
As for the United States (and nearby,) I found that they live in Kentucky, Georgia, Mass, Michigan, Texas, Nebraska, Pennsylvania, Virginia, Maryland, North Carolina Colorado, New Mexico, Arizona, and Ohio. Also, Mexico, Southern Ontario, Canada. I bet they pretty much live everywhere because there are so many different kinds!
It sounds like assassin bugs can be really painful when they bite you, but generally are pretty safe if you don't bother them. Some of them carry diseases, primarily these are found in South America and Mexico. From what I read, it is very rare to get something from them in the US and Canada.

Nearly 3000 species of assassin bugs exist and scientists feel that many more will be discovered. These insects can be commonly found throughout most of the world. They vary in size from a few millimeters to as much as 3 or 4 centimeters. They come in many colors and shapes and most species have two pairs of wings. However, ALL assassin bugs have a powerful, curved rostrum, or beak, that they use to pierce and suck out the tissues of their prey.

In terms of the Assassin bugs which carry Chagas, it is in North America too. We live in Central Texas and submitted four Assassin specimens to Texas A&M for diagnosis. Three out of four came back Positive for Chagas.

if you are interested in the assassin bugs which carry chagas disease, that would be in south america, around chile and peru.
