6y + y^2 = 16
y(6+y) = 16
y = 2

6*2 + 2*2
12 + 4 = 16

there is nothing to solve...there needs to be an equation in order to solve something, so unless this is 6y + y^2 = something, can't solve it.

You can however factor it...
6y + y^2 = y(6 + y)

= what. need both sides

y ^2 + 6y what?

y (y +6) is the best I can do with what you provided.

so what you are asking is:
6y+y^2
right???
ok well since 6y and y squared are different terms, its almost impossible unless you are given the value of y

6y+(y*y) is what you have. What's it supposed to equal? You have to include the whole problem.
