remove tank & clean it with Aquaklean concentrate by k.b.s. coatings. Dilute with hot water..1:1 ratio. Let soak &/or repeat if necessary for a real dirty tank.
Continue w/metal prep and Gold Standard tank sealer if tank is rusted or leaking.

It can be done but if you are restoring this car I would suggest just getting a new tank for it, they are less than $200 and I'm sure after 42 yrs. there is a lot of junk built up in that tank, while you are at it just order a new fuel sending unit for the tank also.

THIS SOUNDS FUNNY BUTT IT WORKS . IVE DONE IT MORE THAN ONCE BUY SOME SNOBOL OE CLR FOR THE TOILET.PUT IT IN THE THANK LET SET FOR A WHILE .TANK NEEDS TO BE OUT OF CAR SNOWBOL AND CLR IS FOR RUST . WILL CLEAN THE TANK REAL GOOD MAKE SURE ITS ALL OUT BEFORE U PUT IT BACK IN

methyl hydrate works great for cleaning varnish and sludge build up inside the tank

TO CLEAN IT THOUROUGHLY YOU NEED TO DROP IT THERE IS ONLY TWO STRAPS HOLDING IT THE HOSE ON THE FILLER NECK ONCE IT IS OUT TAKE SENDING UNIT OUT AND FLUSH WITH WATER UNTIL IT IS CLEAN LET AIR DRY AND ASSEMBLE SAME WAY

remove the tank from the car.........take it to a reputable radiator shop.........they can boil it out for you.
